Just so that every one knows
The Site At Whitrope is now closed for the winter.

Persons visiting the site do so entirely at their own risk.

We urge fellow Heritage Railway persons and members of the public not to visit
as the snow and ice cover makes access to and from the site hazardous.

You will not be covered by our insurance should you fall or injure yourself
Only WRHA security personel have been given access.
Hope to see you in the Spring of 2011

Bits of News on the Rebuild
Lothianbridge Viaduct
Now has four scaffolding towers around the piers closest to the main road.

At Heriot Station between the Platform end and the bush in the distance
there is excavation works going on to control flood water flow ie; The Gala Water.
The Gates in this photo no longer exsist.

Edit; Major work needing done to improve the water flow under what was Bridge 49.
I was up there couple of days ago and the entire bridge and recent works were under about 2 foot of flood water
So the drainage works are not working and I'm guessing the burn needs a form of dredging to drop the water levels
Ho Hum.
They start the rebuild later this year!!

Is Lothianbridge Viaduct on the section which is to be reopened? It would be so good to see trains running over that magnificent bridge.

Somebody definitely needs to take plenty of photos too! Its hard to think of a main line of this importance which has been reopened even if only partially.
It would nice if they could run a steam tour down it too?
And maybe - if the headboard from the final Waverley Line train has survived somewhere - put the old headboard on the first public train?

I should have some photo's of the present work on Lothianbridge and the Flooding at Heriot fairly soon.

If the future holds electrification of this line, I wonder how they plan to get the wires over the Lothianbridge Viaduct. Surely it would need severe modification, no?

Electrification is a long way off
but I would imagine the railway company would upgrade Lothianbridge
the same way as the Royal Border Bridge was electrified

WE have restarted our "Track Bash Weekends" and our site has now reopened,
This is what we got up to this month.:lol:

You are reminded that in order to take part in a track weekend you MUST be a WRHA Member,
when no personnel are there, you are in fact under your own recognisance
and common sense should prevail, mainly, Keep Off The Track!​

  • Click 'go advanced' underneath the reply window.
  • In the additional options section click 'manage attachments'.
  • Then in the new window click 'browse' find your pictures and then click 'upload'.
  • Once they've uploaded close that window then post your message and hey presto your pictures should appear.
