Watford Jct to Southend during blockade

I would like to travel to Southend on Saturday 27th Dec from Watford Jct.

I spoke to the ticket office asking "Can I buy tickets here, using my network card but because of the blockade, start from Watford Met station" His reply was "I have to use the rail replacement service to Stanmore"

Was he right?

If he was, then the easiest option would be to use Oyster card to Tower Hill from Watford Met then buy a return from Fenchurch street.

The London Midland site http://www.londonmidland.com/your-journey/journey-planning/eustonline/ confirms that Watford Met is an acceptable station to use.

There's ticket acceptance on the Metropolitan Line, Chiltern Railways and Thameslink, so you can take your pick.

It shouldn't affect you as you'll have a Maltese Cross on your ticket, but the only valid exit for tickets to London Euston is at Euston Square.
