I was annoyed to discover the W&C closed this morning. When I checked a few days ago on the TfL website it did not list a planned closure for today. Does anyone know what changed? Or was it always not going to run?

It was always not going to run; the Waterloo & City line hasn’t run on Saturdays and (some) public holidays since pre Covid, and has rarely run on Sundays for longer.

To be fair, https://tfl.gov.uk/status-updates/major-works-and-events/1-january#on-this-page-4 says it even more clearly:
But I'm sure the main Status page (https://tfl.gov.uk/tube-dlr-overground/status/) didn't previously mention the W&C for today.

Regardless, New Years Day is a bank holiday and the W&C doesn't run at all on any bank holidays. This is well publicised and has been the case for many years.
