Waterloo - Bournemouth - Wareham with a PRIV

Hello

Does anyone know a decent split(s) for the following as a whole please, using a PRIV?

Friday 9th May after 1905 - Waterloo to Bournemouth
Saturday 10th May - Bounrnemouth - Wareham and return (eventual destination Swanage, by bus)
Saturday 10th May in late afternoon - Bournemouth to Waterloo

I was going to suggest the 2105 Megatrain from Waterloo until I saw the date. Too late for any decent prices now.

Had a quick look and I think the Brighton - Bournemouth Not Via London fare would be hard to beat. Valid via Clapham Junction, and it is best you get to Clapham Junction on an earlier service to save any potential argument regarding the pick-up arrangement there. (Not that Condition 19 forbids it, but best to avoid the arguments completely.) No SOR unfortunately so two SDS at £9.75 each. There is no SOR in that neck of the woods except airport flows and even the cheapest ones are no good.

Waterloo - Clapham Junction SDS is 80p each, or buy from a Zone 2 NR station from the opposite end of London (Kentish Town for example) if an LU transfer is required, at £1.45 each.

Bournemouth - Wareham SDR is £1.65, but the Wareham - Swanage bus is not cheap (fares have always been quite steep), so it is recommended that you get the 50 bus from Bournemouth itself (interchange or square) and go over the chain ferry - nice views over Poole Harbour. Day ticket is £8.50, or £20 for a group of up to five, or for the same price, you can get a round-trip around the Isle of Purbeck in either direction. Timetables here. You need the 40, 50 or m1/2 depending on what you want to do.

I do now have a further question:

Looking at services which stop at CLJ on the Friday evening, catching a separate service to there and changing might be a bit awkward. I suspect that due to the times of services, if I do that, it will cost me nearly an hour on my journey.... given condition 19 doesn't expressly forbid it, how much of an issue do you think it might actually cause on the day? (I know questions like that can be tricky to answer as it can depend on the member of staff at the time!)

Further edit - looking at the options for crossing London, a Kentish Town - Clapham Junction ticket is sending me via the Tube to Vauxhall, then a train from there. Am I right in thinking that doing this would be valid with my PRIV, train Kentish Town St Pancras - Tube to Vauhall - train to Clapham Junction, and would avoid the issue with pick up / set down at CLJ?

Aye, you can do any valid cross-London transfer with that ticket, so St Pancras - Vauxhall or Waterloo would both be fine, but obviously with a change at Clapham Junction you avoid the pick up/set down issue.

I don't think there would be a huge issue on a through train from Waterloo realistically speaking, as there won't be a check between Waterloo and Clapham J, and as staff you will probably get more leeway than a normal punter. (Condition 19 only mentions tickets covering the whole journey and the train calls, and both are obviously satisfied.)

As to the cross-London transfer, I just noticed another ticket. There is a London St Pancras (specifically) - Clapham Junction SDS which is available at 80p, but without the cross-London marker. This ticket is valid on Thameslink core to London Bridge, then to Waterloo East, walk to Waterloo, and onwards from there. This is cheaper than using LU, but a bit slower. The ticket is the same price as one from London Terminals (which is not valid from St P) so make sure that it is issued specifically from St Pan.

Not listed as a valid connection, but one I've made several times, is the xx27 to Exeter from Clapham Junction to Basingstoke, arriving at xx06, and then the XC service to Bournemouth at xx10. Arrives in Bournemouth at xx12, 10 minutes earlier than the usual option of changing at Woking to pick up the xx35 fast out of Waterloo.

It can go quite wrong though if the connection's missed, so I usually monitor the trains on my phone with a view to changing at Woking if it's looking a little tight. Haven't had to yet though.

I am usually swapping from Oyster at Clapham, which means having to change services rather than using condition 19. That would be the easier option!

If your going to get the 50, you'll probably want to get it at the interchange, on a nice sunny day that route can get very busy. If you try to get it at the Square you might find that the bus is already full. I doubt that any open top bus will be in use on that route, but if there is one in use you'll want a jumper as it can get a little chilly on the top deck.

I don't know, you should contact MoreBus who will be able to tell you what discounts if any you can get with the priv.

No, Bournemouth and Poole PlusBus finishes at Sandbanks ferry.

Also, PRIV discount is not available with PlusBus.
