At the ticket office at High Wycombe station this morning at approx I asked for ‘a return ticket to custom house’ (East London). I duly paid £42.00, got a receipt and set off on my travels via Marylebone, Baker Street, Bond Street and finally the Lizzy Line to Custom House. Got to Custom House and the barrier rejected my ticket. spoke to the TFL staff member who pointed out my ticket was a return to Zone 1, Custom House was Zone 3. He asked for my return ticket and I explained what I had asked for at Wycombe station and also showed the receipt. He said he would let me out as it was an error, which he duly did.
I was mortified that I was travelling on an invalid ticket. Plain clothes ticket inspectors were present at Custom House this morning which could have made my day very bad indeed.
So did the guy in the ticket office cock up, should I have asked for a different ticket such as a Travelcard or what? I intend to make a complaint to Chiltern over this if I was issued with the wrong ticket.
Coming back I used my Oyster from Custom House to Baker Street then the paper ticket to get back to Wycombe
All comments welcome.
