Work will take me to Coventry at the end of March and we're thinking of having a break there over Easter. Usually I do all my work travel by rail. I don't know the Warwickshire area at all so have no clue as to the extent/usefulness of the railway network there for day trips and sightseeing. Is there a place, which isn't Birmingham, which would be a good place to stay and be a base for travelling by rail (e.g. to Warwick, Stratford upon Avon) etc? Or, is that place actually Birmingham? Or would we be better off renting car? All advice gratefully received.

Leamington Spa is probably a good bet, alternative to Brum. Pleasant regency town, connected by rail to Warwick, Stratford, Coventry and Birmingham. And hopefully, Kenilworth by then too.

The Premier Inn in Leamington Spa is a 10 minute walk from the station.
