Wallington Line

I am new to the forum so i hope this is posted in the right place

Currently the Wallington Line operates off-peak 6 tph to Victoria (4tph via Norbury and 2tph via Crystal Palace) slow all stoppers.

What are the chance of there being fast trains on this line? Say Wallingtom, Waddon, W Croydon, NJ, LB.

One of the RUS before London overground started from West Croydon, talked of operating fast to London Bridge via NJ when it opened. Obviously this did not happen.

With the London Bridge rebuilt, is their off-peak capacity to terminate there?

What is the best way to communicate your desire for these services? Direct to Southern?

You could always change at Norwood junction and catch a fast train from there (uckfield/ Horsham services). I don't think it would be possible due to lorol turning back at west Croydon, that takes up valuable paths.

Those exact trains exist, but only in the peaks currently.

Out of the peaks, there isn't much demand for fast trains - journeys are more local in nature (school, shoppers, local employment, old people...) - many lines don't have fast services off peak.

To be pedantic it's the Tattenham Corner/Reigate/Tonbridge/Horsham services that call at NJ, Uckfield is fast from East Croydon :P

Umm 13:19 & 14:19

I've checked Open Train Times, and the only Uckfield Train booked to call at Norwood Junction from what I can see is the 22:04 that also calls at Upper Warlingham and Sanderstead. By all means please correct me, if I am wrong, but during the day at least I can't find any Uckfield trains stopping between East Croydon and London Bridge.


Edit: I checked again on the page showing departures from Norwood junction at the specific times (I checked the departures from Uckfield before from simplicity), and the 14:19 came up, but not the 13:19, but it wasn't listed as a calling point when you clicked on the service, and no arrival time or departure time. I have now found a 15:19 and its the same? Is it pick up/drop off or something?

Ahh further searching shows a couple of later xx:04's from London Bridge haha still, most Uckfield trains are fast from ECR

the only reason I added these is because I've seen then stop there with doors open, I have a feeling its down to crew changes as its driven by norwood drivers and selhurst/vic guards. Maybe just unadvertised stops like fcc selhurst/ norwood junction stops overnight.

Those mid afternoon services only stop for a change of driver - all Uckfields are crewed by Link 1/2 Norwood drivers and conductors from Selhurst. But they're not public stops, advertised or otherwise.

The doors are not released or are not meant to be released on crew relief at Norwood junction and you can add the 1508 London bridge to uckfield service in there or at least you could a few years back which also had a driver change, for the record the driver will change at Norwood and conductor at east croydon
