Cambridge South says hello! No car parking but 1000 spaces for bicycles.


I'm not very familiar with the area, but, looking at the map, it seems bizarre not to take advantage of the proximity of Junction 23A on the M4.


Looking at the map the road access to Severn Tunnel Junction from the M4 is not ideal.

One of the features of Cambridge South is that it has the guided busway and active travel route to and from Trumpington Park and Ride, which is next to Junction 12 of the M11.

If I were sharpening my crayons I would be proposing a Park and Ride near Junction 23A on the M4 and a busway/active travel route between the Park and Ride site and the new station.

Having tried Severn Tunnel Junction from that M4 junction while the Marches was closed, I can say it is absolutely daft not to switch the parkway function to Magor. To go to Severn Tunnel you drive through Magor and then get a little bit of 40 before having to go through the village at Undy. Severn Tunnel Junction must be one of the worst parkway stations there is.

Luckily, the Marches is not closed that often and Pontypool has an excellent car park accessed from a dual carriageway.

The STJ action group did a study a few years ago, about half of the users that come by car come from the west (half Magor & Undy, half further along), and half from the east (mainly Caldicot area, some Chepstow/Wye Valley/Forest of Dean)
