Walking the plank

When I was younger I always used to think this would be a solution for transferring crew and catering trolleys at remote locations such as Lairg, Tain, Helmsdale, to save long walks in the dark at night. And in the odd occasion changing trains, but I never thought "Walking the Plank" would ever actually be done.

Why not introduce airport style tunnel ramps up to trains for use as temporary stations?

Very far fetched, but as this news article shows, when needs must, anything is possible.

It's a great idea but could you imagine the cost of the risk assessments etc that would occur? Only in Britain of course.

I've seen this happen regularly in the past, though without the ramp, and not with passengers..........

Didn't National Express West Anglia do this recently, when someone being chased by the police ran under a Stansted Express train? I think they used a ramp to move people over to another train alongside, as they presumably didn't want anyone getting off and seeing what must have been quite a mess.

Risk Assessments and the media to blame. I'm glad the government is cutting down on stupid OTT health and safety. Thanks to the media taking a lift off strangers is now highly dangerous, I today got on the wrong bus and ended up 4 miles from my destination, i was absolutely panicking out my mind but thankfully a total stranger got me to where I wanted without money. Its about time Britain and its citizens grew up and realised that this country is safe. Legislation and rules cannot stop accidents,
If people don't use their common sense then crap happens. Its part of being a live human.

The "ATO" railway on which I work has a similar system, where a "de-trainment board" would be placed between to vehicles next to each other. However, as far as I know, no trains have been evacuated yet in this way
