Walking the Cotgrave Colliery Branchline

Thank you for your video. I lived in the centre of the "village" for twenty years arriving in 1978. The pit was still working. Many of its miners had moved down from Tyneside after the coalfields there were abandoned. "Geordie" was the dominant accent in the local pubs and, of course, The Welfare.
Even before the pit closed, I couldn't understand why BR didn't run a shuttle passenger service from Cotgrave into Nottingham. Virtually everybody that used Barton's 22 bus service travelled the whole way into Nottingham with a very few people getting off in West Bridgford and almost nobody wanting to go to Radcliffe-on-Trent unless they wanted to travel eastwards to the east coast mainline connection at Grantham. Following the closure of the pit I just saw this is a complete no-brainer especially as the Nottingham Metro was coming into play.
The colliery site would provide plenty of space for parking for Nottingham-bound commuters from the villages in The Vale of Belvoir
BTW, the pit was always a financial basket case. Significant water ingress from acquifers above the coal seams require the vertical shaft linings to be frozen to keep flooding under control and these additional power costs kept Cotgrave firmly "in the red".
