Walking disused lines in Yorkshire

A group of us plan to walk along some disused lines in Yorkshire, is anyone interested?

One possible suggestion is: Cross Gates to Scholes, lunch in the Buffers, then either bus back, or onto Thorner then bus back.

Other suggestions welcome too.

On the subject of walks, I understand the Queensbury lines have a path. Would be nice to go over a viaduct if there's one along the path !

York to Selby would be ideal for a cycle ride rather than a walk. I have cycled it many times (I've even been paid to cycle it!)

There is a possible walk southwest of Otley? Visible on open street map.

I'll leave others to set a limit, I'll do any length!

Could you draft an itinerary for doing this walk on Sun 29th? Ideally with a train out of Leeds around 10am, then whatever buses are needed to Cullingworth, a lunch stop in wherever, then a bus back from Queensbury to Bradford (or Halifax?).

The 576 offers some fantastic views between Halifax and Queensbury, so time / ticket dependent that would certainly be worthwhile. I hope to have an M-Card product that I can show off that day

It might just have been me being dumb at the time; but I think it took me about 10 minutes to walk from Keighley bus station to the rail station? The next 697 appears to be at 1150...

Hahah, why am I not surprised? Not too bothered personally, just pointing out potential risk of an hour in Keighley. There are worse places!

I'm going to suggest as an alternative that there's a 697 from Bradford Interchange at 1048, which gets to Cullingworth at 1123 Slightly later but less chance of missing. IF we were to make the 1008 LDS - BDI that would give 18 mins to connect and it's literally a 2 minute walk at Bradford Int (unlike Keighley)!

If yorksrob's train from Normanton is RT that could be do-able as a 4 min connection.

Incidentally, I've got a copy of this book The Lost Lines of Britain, although it doesn't have much of interest in Yorkshire other than York-Selby, Longendale and Scarborough-Whitby.

Available at all good book shops, and some rubbish ones as well.

Ah, that was a superb walk on the Queensbury lines last time. If they could see to finishing the middle bit, it would be even better !

OS map suggests "yes and no" but probably mostly "no" Would be worth a recce next time I'm driving past.

Any other suggestions for the next one?

It appears that the old Newtown Goods (Midland Railway Extension)may be walkable from Deighton to Mirfield via the Bradley Viaduct.

Then maybe a Pacer to Ravensthorpe, then there's plenty to do round there on the Ravensthorpe Branch (Spen Valley Greenway) until we get bored/tired/hungry/run over by cyclists.
