Looking for the cheapest but reasonably routed fare for this Saturday returning the same day.

Advance not really an option as nothing really in my price range, So over to the experts, Any splits or day rangers available? I also have 2 tokens for a Northern day ranger which can get me as far as Nottingham, Retford, or Lincoln

I have no railcards

The obvious would be to simply get an off peak return from Retford to Peterborough at a cost of £35, but I suspect that is not in your price range.

If you could get to Lincoln, the off peak day return from Lincoln to Peterborough via Spalding is £15.20, which I suspect is more like it and is valid on the direct East Midlands trains services as these go via Spalding. I don't know if that satisfies your 'reasonably routed' condition though as the journey would take longer.

Edit: A Licolnshire day ranger costs £26.80 and would be valid from Nottingham to Peterborough, or Lincoln to Peterborugh, or indeed Doncaster to Peterborough via Lincoln.
Might be handy if you want to go out one way and back the other.
