Does anyone else think that this short journey is a rip off at £7.70.

Yet its £4.50 Wakefield to Adwick and then 0.70 from Adwick to Doncaster.

On stoppers, you would be better off splitting at South Elmsall, saving a further 60p. The anomaly occurs because journeys wholy within West Yorkshire are subsidised by the West Yorks PTE, similarly with South Yorkshire, but journeys between the two are subsidised by neither. I often think in these cases there would be a case for a 'Northern Only' fare.

You can't split and use a fast train. The price probably reflects the express service, which most will use.

As Clagmonster says, the Doncaster - Wakefield fare is set by East Coast but the intermediate fares are set by the PTEs. Northern wouldn't wish to offer a cheaper Northern only fare, any more than they offer a cheaper Northern only Fare Leeds to York. They would loose revenue.

Strange as I never use EC for that route either XC or Northern.

And of course apart from spliting. Do you think that the £7.70 for a 15 to 30 min journey is a rip off.

Try going in the other direction!
Doncaster to Newark, another journey of under 30 minutes, at £18.30 for a Day Return.
I just use the A1 instead!
