At last, work is currently underway at Wakefield Kirkgate to turn it into an imposing station fit for purpose. The entrance and Platform 1 are partially sectioned off to accomodate the building work. There are NO screens platform 1 or PA announcements. There is a sign saying Leeds, Huddersfield this platform (on platform 1 by the subway entrance).

When a train approaches from Barnsley, it turns up on platform 1 as it is going to Leeds. It is 3 minutes later than the train from Kirkgate to Huddersfield (arrgh - hourly service). After waiting the hour at platform 1, the train from wakefield westgate arrives at platform 2 (access via the subway) and sets off for Huddersfield leaving the poor passenger (me) stranded on platform 1. There are small displays on platforms 2 and 3 but these cannot be seen from platform 1.

I have complained to 2 Northern types who said, yeh, we know but they won't do anything about it!

Yes, abysmal connections all round at Kirkgate, particularly between the Hallam line and Huddersfield. Perhaps when its rebuilt we might get a real ale buffet in which to spend the hour

I am certain screens will be installed before the station is finished.

But the situation is - and has been for a long time - unacceptable, and I encourage you to claim for compensation for an hour's delay.

This has happened to me before too, the best thing to do is wait for it to approach and if it starts to veer towards platform 2 just bolt for it like the clappers under the subway.

There are two services which are scheduled to depart from platform 2, not sure what times they are though, after 18.00.

As for compensation, forget it, they won't pay.

As for the refurb, has anyone got any pictures of the development.

They didn't pay out when I tried to claim for this before.
Have you gone to Passenger Focus? If Northern and PF are not resolving the matter, I suggest you go through PF's complaints procedure and contact your MP.

I think it should be easier to take complaints further, though.

This happened to me about 8 year ago, I don't think it was even Northern then, it might well have been their predecessors Northern Spirit or whatever they were called.

Why not use Real Time Departures boards on your phone. I think I've only failed to get platform numbers at Euston until now

There is a screen there - it is in the old entrance which is cordoned off ! I'm pretty sure that's the master for the station as the screens over on the island look to be wireless and weren't working for ages, presumably when the power to the main board was off

That's how I've had to do it a couple of times. Unacceptable that this is what one has to resort to, though!
