I may attempt EUS to BNG on an announced strike day. I would be traveling on an off-peak ticket.
(Valid any off peak train, Not restricted to VTWC)

Anyone have suggestions or inside information on the best route?

Looking at the time tables, the journey planner, and the VT website, it looks like the recomended route is:

09:10 London Euston to Crewe. Arrive Crew 10:45
Rail Replacement bus to Chester? Conflicting information. Email from Virgin says bus!
ATW from Chester to Bangor. IF the bus arrives in time to meet the 12:24 to Holyhead, I arrive BNG at 13:30

I am considering this alternate if the tickets would be accepted:

09:10 London Euston to Warrington Bank Quay.
11:26 WBQ to Llandudno Junction
13:13 Llandudno Junction to BNG arrive BNG 13:30

Any suggestions?

Erm. First of all, do you actually want to travel on a strike day or is it a must? Because I definitely wouldn’t want to!

I don't want to go on a strike day. The trip looks unpleasant and I'd have to cross a picket line. We made plans months ago.

I'm looking at travelling Thursday evening instead.

At least I haven't printed out the tickets yet.

Not that it matters now, but you could have tried Euston-Birmingham International on VT, then on to Bangor direct with ATW via Shrewsbury.
The Warrington route is also fine, but it would be on the xx30 Glasgow from Euston.
12 minutes connection into ATW at WBQ, otherwise a glum hour till the next.
