We have had previous threads where Virgin Trains West Coast issues large rail travel vouchers as compensation for customer service issues, with highly generic letters. This seems to be continuing. My wife and her mate have each had £50 for a half-hour delay on a Birmingham Intl to London Euston delay last month.

Well, if he does complain he'll probably get a £50 voucher for himself too.

I suppose, though, that there is a serious point to be made here, which is that we hope Virgin don't do the same thing if, say, someone on an anytime ticket from Glasgow to London is delayed by an hour.

On this note, my father, when delayed on a journey between Plymouth and North Wales, filled delay repay forms with the two companies that caused his delay: VWC and XC. Virgin gave £100 in vourchers, whereas Crosscountry told him that as Virgin caused the original delay, they were transferring the claim to them. What did Virgin do? Issue another £100 in vouchers!

They do! Had a group of people delayed returning from Euston after a fatality, full 2+ hour delay and shenanegans on £900 worth of tickets. First reply, after sending them the claim, was "sorry, we've not read your letter but here is £50 and we hope this satisfies you". It didn't

Fair play to them, quick email with the reference and they sent the remaining £850 along.

Their delay repay site is easy to use, but they do seem to be pretty blasé about the amount. Website said £90 but they sent £120. Not bad for just taking 5 minutes to fill in a form and attach a picture of the tickets.

I trust you're not complaining!

It would depend on why I was complaining. If I was putting in delay repay on a £10 ticket, fine. But often I complain with an issue in mind and want them to actually address it.

To be fair at least they send me 50 quid while not reading my letter, rather than just not reading my letter as some would! :)

I read somewhere (in Rail mag?) about someone who wrote a letter of praise to a TOC about a really helpful staff member - they got an apology letter and an RTV!

I wonder what he would have got if he had complained about that?
