VTWC - Advance Outbound, Off-Peak Return - Need to amend

I have tickets for travel next week, travelling out on an Advance ticket and returning on Off-Peak booked through the VTWC site.

I need to now change journey. For the Advance leg this is straight forward, I can amend it on the website (with £10 booking fee). However the only option I have for the return leg is to cancel and re-book - but this would result in me only being able to book a single ticket not linked with the outbound advance ticket (at considerably greater cost) than the off peak single that is issued as part of the 'flexibility' that VTWC offer or another Advance.

I had this problem last year and despite my protestations to Virgin they failed to grasp the issue. In the end they sent me one of their £50 ‘fob off’ vouchers which was nice (as it more than covered the extra cost) but it completely failed to address the issue.

Do you need to change the date of the return portion?

i need to change the date on both legs, but yes the return portion is the one that presents the issue!

I can’t remember fully as it was over a year ago since I had my issue but you might be best trying to amend the return portion first, then going back and doing the outward.

Cannot amend the return portion (which is the off-peak single) - only option online is to cancel and refund.

I fear that’s what you’ll have to do. It really is most unsatisfactory.

Like you said, an email to VT making comments of a supposedly more flexible ticket being less flexible. Fortunately the time when I will be travelling in December I can book quite safely on an advance for the return journey so end up not financially punished.
