VTEC to drop branding

Virgin (west coast) 1st tickets are now accepted for entry into the Virgin east coast lounge at Waverley.
Not sure if Virgin (east coast) tickets are accepted at the Glasgow Central lounge or not though.

That's been the case since their franchise started, at least.

And it's the desire for profit, together with the competition element where available, that drives down cost by reaching a point where a particular fare level is calculated to maximise the amount of train capacity that is used.

Yeah I never disputed that but what does that have to do with name of livery of the train? Or the signage at the station? That same train will be in competition, it's just that its called InterCity.

Agreed. Intercity journeys are much more prone to free market forces than distress-purchase journeys made by commuters.

This is a bad example on my part as Grand Central is a open access operator so would not be a InterCity operation. Apart from Glasgow or Edinburgh is there any other station where one Franchised intercity operation is in competition with another?

If Glasgow counts due to the small scale of East Coast operations, Leeds would be another with a small East Midlands operation. By the same token, Leeds would count with both East Coast and East Midlands.

Are we no longer counting Crosscountry as a part of the intercity sector, or are we only looking at London-centric operators?

Crosscountry provide appreciable competition with the primary London-centric operator between Edinburgh and York/Doncaster (VTEC), Sheffield (and arguably Leeds) and Derby (EMT), and Exeter and Plymouth/Penzance (GWR).
