I received this email from VTEC yesterday;

"********,we just wanted to let you know that from 7 November, you'll no longer have the option to choose our m-Ticket method for any new tickets you book on our website.

Our m-Ticket wallet app will still be available to download though. So if you've already got an m-Ticket, which you booked before 7 November, don't worry – they're still useable and 100% valid. Just make sure you've downloaded the app to your phone to be able to use the m-Tickets as planned.

If you want to know why we're giving our m-Tickets a breather, it's so we can spend the next few months doing a bit of an overhaul on our web systems. It's all to make things faster, simpler, and slicker for our lovely mobile customers like you."

It seems rather sudden, anyone have any info, other than what it states?

Will they perhaps switch to the much simpler VTWC e-ticketing approach, whereby you can display a barcoded PDF on whatever device you feel like (or print it if you prefer)?

Not sure but it may be a full overhaul of the whole integrated ticketing system theyre all going for - so a new app for both sides to be an addition to new onboard readers for the guards too.

Dont quote me on that - only a guess

I wonder how many people used it. I never found a journey it was offered on (due to normally starting at a station outside the area). On the west coast i refused as the Terms and conditions of the ticket were not acceptable compared to a normal one

It won't be switched on again until their new website and app is up and running next year , the onboard kit is brand new so there won't be any changes to that. It won't be the VTWC system.

VTWC guards have recently got barcode readers for m-tickets, I am assuming that this is so they can electronically cancel them. As has said before, perhaps it's to bring VTEC up to speed
