Vtec's 91119 has this morning been named 'Bounds Green Intercity Depot 1977-2017'. To mark 40 years as an Intercity Depot.

Yes, 43257 (i think) is named 'Bounds Green', as originally this was based there.

Presume 91 named this time as it is allocated there.

43257 was named Bounds Green (when it was 43057) back in BR days. The East Coast route named 4 power cars after their depots: 43049/057/095/100.

I remember seeing it in original Intercity livery at Bounds Green open day in 1987. I think it was one that I hadn't seen before as we didn't get the ECML ones in Devon from what I remember.

In the olden days (when at Trowell Jn you didn't "cop" many "namers") names were given for the life of the loco and were not as today more like marketing slogans.

The ECML had traditions of naming, racehorses was one. That is the sort of thing we should be doing. (If anyone is reading I'd like to name a Cl 800 "Blink Bonny", a racehorse for which a pub at Christon Bank LC is named, I'll pay my own travel).

Locomotives should be named how and when the operating company want to name them. It’s just a piece of metal (nameplate) stuck to another piece of metal (locomotive). Some people take loco namings far too seriously.

If a company wants to honour a long serving employee nobody outside the industry has heard of, celebrate a local person or event or use it as a marketing tool that is entirely up to them.

However some names seems really random - such as Penny the Pendolino - and others I suspect had meaning in the past but not so much now, for example West Riding Limited. For me the best one is 91110 with its Battle of Britain vinyls

I like Penny the Pendolino because it sounds like a Thomas the Tank Engine character... after the railways on Sodor have been upgraded with electrification and tilt
