VT route renumbering

Now that the Cross Country franchise has changed hands in favour of Arriva, will the Virgin West Coast routes be renumbered? Maybe if Virgin/Stagecoach wins the Intercity East Coast franchise, routes 1, 2 and 3 could be re-assigned there?

Ah.. but there are 4 ICEC route
London Kings Cross - Leeds
London Kings Cross - Glasgow Central
London Kings Cross - Aberdeen
London Kings Cross - Inverness

Not to mention that some trains only run London Kings Cross - Newcastle....

And some of the Scotland services anly get as far as Edinburgh.

Possibly? Mind you, V3 wouldn't be very long

What benefit do people see the route numbers having. The routes do not follow a set stopping pattern and has been suggested, London - scotland gives 4 possible destinations!Apart from on Virgin timetables were they ever used in passenger communications etc. I assume the operations side of things just used headcodes.

Even the current system of route numbering fails - there are a small number of direct XC services between Bristol (& further south) and Manchester Piccadilly, but are not shown on the VT network map.

Just hope when they loose XC they don't give us them farty fold out timetables that are pointless for like 8 trains a day for each bit of the line.
