VT - Friday Euston - Man Picc Extra

Is this a 90 hauled train? Is it the 1843 from Euston? Does it still run? IS it running today?

Is there a case for this train running more often? It started as a Friday only and has now moved the TH/FR only. The Friday train seems to be loaded very well. I have been on this train once on a Thursday and it was also full and standing.

I assume the run via Birmingham is to keep the 90 out of the way of the faster pendos but does it serve any other purpose? Is it a way of keeping the loadings sensible on the early evening Birmingham and Wolves trains?

Is there a case for running extras on other lines out of London? I ask becuase last Friday the 18:30 EC out of Kings Cross left people stood on the platfrom with the aisles and vestbules packed.

The ThFO service is the 18:57 Euston-Piccadilly.

It does not go via Birmingham and is a Pendolino.

It is shown in printed timetables as a FO 18:57 Euston-Liverpool but Virgin changed it to a Manchester service instead.

The reason it takes 10 minutes longer is because Virgin have a 75mph on the Crewe-Manchester section due to it not being part of the 2008 WCML timetable recast and being squeezed in later.

I thought the 90 ran one of these? There is a pendo that stops Crewe and Piccadilly but i thoiught there was another train before that. Perhaps i have got confuddled!

The 18:43 is the daily Euston-Wolverhampton.

Are you thinking of the FO 18:46 Euston to Preston via Birmingham? That's advertised as no catering and standard class accommodation only.

Now, on Thursdays and Fridays, when the 1857 to Manchester runs, the Pendolino which forms it is the one that normally runs the 1843 to Crewe (via Birmingham), a normal pattern Birmingham service that is extended to Crewe in the path of a Birmingham - Scotland train (which don't run this late at night), so the 1843 to Crewe is formed of a 90 and the Pretendolino on Thursdays and Fridays only.

It used to run on the 1846 to Preston (FO) but this is now either a Voyager or a Pendolino (can't remember which...).

You're getting confused.

The 1843 is run by 90+MK3 ThFO, it is an extension of the normal xx43 to Wolves to Crewe.

The 1846 to Preston runs via the TV and is a 221/390 and runs FO

Indeed.

Only the 1843 services ThFO are regularly 90-hauled.

There did used to be a EUS-PRE working which was 90-hauled, but that is discontinued.

It seems to wait at the junction at Cheadle Hulme for several minutes for the 1900 to get ahead, then follow right behind it into Manchester. If the 1900 is late, the 1857 can get a clear run and arrive quite early!

M TU WED it's a 390 Pendolino, first and standard class.

18:46 London Euston to Preston
FRI only, declassified and run by a Class 221. Calls at Rugby (set down only) Tamworth, Lichfield TV, Stafford, Crewe and Preston.

18:57 London Euston to Manchester Picadilly THU FRI only. Declassified 390 Pendolino. This is an extra fourth service to Manc as the other three are so busy both days.
