VT First Class Food

Any ideas on what food is on offer in First Class?

It will be the usual "snack" on the MAN - EUS

On the 16:40 GLC - EUS you will be offered a (basic) hot meal between Motherwell and Carlisle
You may be offered a second round, and after Preston another round of "snacks"

On the 16:58 PRE-EUS you will be offered a (basic) hot meal

No but the snack menu mainly consits of drink, crisps and a sandwich.

I travel with VT a lot, and I know you get a lot more than that.
If anybody has the menus or is travelling in the next two days and fancies checking, it'd be most appreciated.

the last time I went (within the last couple of months) the snack menu consisted of either a 'wrap' or a slice of cold pie, with a slice of cake and drinks. None of them were particularly substantial.

* Choice of two delicious sandwiches or snacks, made from the finest ingredients.
* With a sweet treat like a muffin or slice of cake.

I don't know if you can ask for other things, but I wasn't offered anything.

That's precisely the thought which came into my head when I first saw the post, i actually thought it was some kinda silly joke... :roll:

I'm afraid VT have "given up" on printing First Class menus now, supposedly for envionmental reasons (i.e. save paper etc), although I suspect it could simply have been done to remove the need to try to provide the advertised food for that week.

The February hotline magazine mentions Brie & Cranberry roll, Beef & Horseradish sandwich, Double egg sandwich amongst others.

Hot meals included Venison with chesnuts [sounds nice] , Khashmari Chicken and Vegetarian pie, mash and gravy.

the food in first class is very poor. you can buy a breakfast far nicer and far cheaper, and the evening meals are usually salad or sandwiches, something you can buy for a couple of quid at the station

if however you use the Primo trains, you do get a hot meal, maybe a jacket potatoe, chicken, some sort of hot meat dish etc... but is it worth it? no, because primo services are peak time trains which cost the earth to travel on, as no advanced fares can be bought

There haven't been Primo services for a long time - and I have never seen a 'salad or sandwich' served instead of a hot meal at evening meal times.

Doesn't give the full menu, but still states that hot meals are on offer in the evening. It says after 1700 but I have certainly had one on the 1630 London - Glasgow.

The normally have a couple of choices BUT if the train is busy and you are at the wrong end you may not get what you want, or even worse nothing if they have ran out altogether. I have seen this happen when BA are the creak and people are using Virgin to get them home to Glasgow instead, making first class at lot more busy than normal. They only load food based on average loadings, quite sensible when you don't want to throw it away. But it does cause problems when you have an angry mob of BA passengers who have just paid nearly £200 for a single ticket!

There are certain exceptions to the 1700-1900 rule. The only way to be sure is checking the timetables on the Virgin site.

Yup thats right, also the 16:40 Glasgow Central to London Euston, which i've used many times before, i think it's very good when everything is available (i..e not run out), particularly considering the fact that Primo evening meal was only available northbound away from London, with no southbound evening services benefiting from a hot meal.
