I'm sure you used to get free alcoholic beverages at one time - or at least the first drink free at Euston - perhaps my mind is slipping
You think they could run to a free drink as you get them on the train in virtually unlimited quantities particularly on a quiet voyager where the steward is more akin to "wine waiter" than a "chef".
Come to think of it the fare on offer is very poor in comparison to a BA Lounge at Heathrow (ie proper meals , wide food selection, good choice of Alcoholic / Non- Alcoholic Drinks)
Mind you not many plane journeys are on the Birmingham New Street -Birmingham International scale of brevity or cost
