Genuine question: just skimming back through this thread, and the sticky on the subject, I'm intrigued by the extent to which some forum members are concerned by the availability of free refreshments in lounges.

Surely the main purpose of a lounge is to provide a more comfortable place for First Class passengers to wait, or work, ahead of departure or after arrival? If the free coffee wasn't there at Euston for example I'd soon find an alternative source, but I'd still be pleased to have a desk to work at for an hour or so.

Why are free drinks and snacks so significant, their actual cash value is tiny?

Well I suppose it relates to how much you have paid for your ticket. If you are on a £12 Falkirk to Newcastle Advance and on a limited budget the facilities are a welcome staging post.

A couple of coffees and a snack at a station are probably north of a fiver. Not just that you get a free Times and use of the exclusive toilet facilities as well.

So if you have paid a fair wedge for your ticket a fiver is peanuts by comparison, but to those of us with not so much cash it is a great bonus.

The staff in the lounge are brilliant, the setting not so much. I too have seen one of the furry interlopers scurrying about from the corner of my eye...

That is totally unacceptable - if that had been me that saw them a report would go in to the local environmental health authority immediately. The place should be closed till they sort the issue.

A little brown squeaky interloper is nothing compared with the invasion of the pigeons you get at Euston...same thing but with wings so they can **** on you from a great height...
