There's a sign saying just that at the far London end of platform 2 at Coventry. What does it mean? 14/15 cars? That's never happened, and it only looks about two cars' length past the Pendolino stop board.

I've questioned this at work before because it's actually beyond the signal at one end of the platform so what happens if you're driving a 15 coach train and the signal is red?

My manager seems to think that is also has something to do with when Motorail ran? Possibly completely wrong...

They were put up specifically during the WCML Rugby blockades just a few years ago, when sets of three Voyagers were operated in multiple down the Chiltern route. They had no other calls between Coventry and Euston, so there were no issues with platforming anywhere else.

This required full 221 availability for something like 3 days straight didn't it?

Love how in loads of threads now, someone asks a question, the correct answer is given, and is then confirmed, and then people still come along with suggestions!

It's not a very clear picture, but we've had this "VT 4/5" sign at Stalybridge for ages.

I can only assume it is for trains reversing to get access to/from Guide Bridge/Ashton as it is on the west end of the eastbound (down) platform before you get to the actual passenger-accessible bit.
