Are there any plans for a much needed refurbishment of them, especially the XC ones?

If the well documented issues with the toilets and air-con were fixed, and the reliability issues with the tilting were fixed, then the government should order up a whole new batch of them to make all the sets doubled up.

They could make them bi-modal to run under the wires, and surely they'd have time to change over at BHM for the ones going down towards BRI and the MML?

A doubled up 220 nearly always solves the overcrowding issues and they could they speed up the journey times if the 221s were cleared for tilting between BHM and MAN?

Very minor refresh includes new carpets and upholstery only. First Class recieves CrossCountry colours whilst due to some DDA issue standard retains Virgin colours which baffles me. I asked one of the managers who informed me that she wishes they could use CrossCountry's colour scheme throughout the train.

Nothing can be done about the toilets yet Virgin's are reportedly less smelly. Something to do with warming up of the sewage tan. Very poor design and would be too expensive to take them out.

Gov talking of lengthening Voyagers though AFAIK by only 1 coach which would have a pantograph? This story been rumbling on for over a year

A diesel version of the eight carriage 460s would probably have been a more satisfactory train for Crosscountry than the Voyagers! A decent sized luggage van and a proper length of train (Though admittedly the 1/3 and 2/3 door positions wouldn't have been exactly perfect).

Don't know I'm starting to see the argument for more doors and wider doors. The doors on the 442s really are narrow you don't notice how narrow till you've been on a 460. They could install interior doors seperating vestibules to keep noise and draft out.

Yeah would have been great to have a diesal variant. A high quality interior would love to know what is to happen to them

In many ways the regional layout of the 460s is better suited to XC than the intercity layout; most journeys on XC are short hops like Birmingham to Derby and Sheffield to York.

Yes there are exceptions (Aberdeen - Penzance) but they're very much in the minority.
