Voyager Sounds

Can anyone explain the array of different Class 221s? On my daily commute to University and Work when alighting at Harrow & Wealdstone I see many Voyagers passing however I've noticed that some of them when passing sound like Turbo units whilst some sound like electric units similar to Class 390s. Has anyone noticed this as well?

I suppose it would depend if they're actually powering or just rolling. Speed also makes a massive difference to the sound. When Voyagers are going along at 125mph you hear the engine a lot less compared to higher speeds.

The rheostatic brakes may account for the "electric" sound you are hearing. It's a high pitched whining sound, a bit like rail enthusiasts talking about Voyagers.

According to Wikipedia, at least one Voyager has hit Warp 9.975.
