From XC, only 221141 is a 4 car unit (I have had it turn up, once)

Really, it is just the bogies (which are the biggest giveaway and noticeable in all but a small number of cases (if it is in the nearest platform and you're not next to it) - otherwise, it is the carriage number being +50 of the unit number

Yes, I agree with everyone else, carriage numbers are the best bet. If a Voyager comes through on an opposite platform then you can just see it clearly but if it's on the platform you're on then it's quite tricky to see as they're hidden down the gap.

Alternatively, if you're actually on the train you can use the Wifi on board as it says what train you're on in the top right corner of the options screen.

isn't the seating arrangement (in comparable carriages) identical between the two?
