James...all the railways are very keen to welcome volunteers. At Keighley you can walk on without a ticket check...the whole thing is run on trust. Tell the ticket guy you're meeting Steve (?) and all will be well. Either that or phone ahead to clear it. On KWVR tomorrow as it happens, so welcome.

The KWVR was one of the first preserved lines that I rode on, and that was about 30 years ago and very enjoyable it was, so just for fun, I looked up their website, and took advantage of their "Journey Planner - Yorkshire" to see how quickly I could get to Haworth from Milton Keynes, using public transport.

I think it must have been having a sense of Yorkshire humour and had sensed that I'm a Lancastrian by birth because it suggested that I start at Milton Keynes Central yesterday at 21:46pm i.e. at a time (~3 hours) well before the time of my entering the query. (The journey time was 8 hours 58 minutes.)

I know when I'm not wanted...
