Vista, Vista, Vista!

Windows Vista had been out for a wile now, and more and more people are starting to use it. With the announcement of service pack one this week, due to come out before the end of the year. I wanted to here your thoughts on this operating system.

From my personal opinion i think this is awful, or to put it correctly completely ****. When Vista first came out, i installed it onto my PC, thinking this is great. About a week later a CD came out of a box, this box i thought i would never see again. On the box there were a two letters XP, i was formatting the computer back to this stable operating system. I have tried it again since that day, and i would not have a computer given with it on. I have now had enough with microsoft, and after buying a Apple Powerbook G4 last year, i am thinking of changing the computer to Apple Mac too. They is just the problem of publishing software for Apple Mac.

Please express your opinions of this operating system, and tell me what you think.

In my opinion, can't see the point. It's just a glorified XP, & design taken from the Mac X OS. I had the chance when I got my laptop, but decided to stick with XP.

I have Vista on my laptop, which I only use for occasional graphics editing and internet browsing etc. and its fine, but I'm sticking with XP on my main computer. Mind you, the version for my laptop was free; Business Upgrade, which PC World are selling for £150! hock:

Vista is probably the only windows system since 3.1 that I haven't used yet, and i used xp before it came out officially.

At the moment i'm in windows 2000 which is still one of the most stable versions.

I also have a mac which seems to do everything I want to do.

Hmm , Ive seen and played around with vista and it seems alright , can anyone give a view on how Simulators work on it. I might decide to buy a CD of it or just wait til I get a new computer with it on.

BVE doesn't work (well) on Vista, nor does MSTS really with some graphics cards....

My sister's computer does that, and she used both for a while, though she now uses mac os x exclusively.

XP works for Me.On my home built system Win XP sp2 has run for 2 1/2 years without a single crash. I built a system for my mum the other day,with vista............world of **** on that one.Next time I see her I will install XP onto it as I'm fed up of the 24/7 calls regarding lock ups,wierd **** & general failures.

Can't stand Vista. Requires much more substantial hardware than XP to run as fast as XP would on half the hardware, I HATE the way it makes me confirm that I want to do what I told it to do. As far as stability goes, it seems much more temperamental than XP, even when running the latest drivers. But this is something that I expect will be worked out with Service Pack One and more mature drivers.

I still don't like it tho. I won't even get started on the rest of it, but suffice to say I am loathing the day when I have to start deploying Vista workstations at the companies I work for. Still, XP will be withdrawn from sale too soon, and Vista will become the standard. Not looking forward to that.

My desktop PC, test rig and older Dell laptop all run XP and I don't have any plans to migrate them to Vista.

After having a good play with Vista on PCs of varying specifications, I bought myself a MacBook Pro... so much better. (IMHO!)

@ Nick W - I stuck with Win2k for a while after XP came out, until a lot of the early bugs had been fixed!

@ nath9425 - If you're getting crashes under XP but not under Vista on the SAME hardware, that probably indicates a driver or other software issue. Try a fresh install of XP, latest drivers, and if it's still crashing, then it's likely a hardware issue, unless you just happen to have a combination of hardware that's clashing, or drivers that clash and are causing an issue.

^^ That, IMO, is the best strategy. After a year or so the glaring errors tend to have been fixed and the incompatible programs found to work.

As a rough guide, I generally say don't change operating system until it hits service pack 1. Has worked every time for me.

Well, MS will have to work bloomin' hard on Vista before I'll consider it again.

With regard to SP1, I think the only OS I didn't wait for SP1 was Windows 2000. I found the early versions to be quite stable and reliable, even when compared with NT4 which I had been running before.

The OS I'm looking forward to at the moment is Leopard.
