Visiting Temple Mills depot

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on here, but I was wondering does anyone work at Temple Mills depot on here? I would love to visit and see a 373 up close if possible. How do I go about getting in there! I'm currently a train dispatcher at a major terminus station in London if that's any help.

Joking aside, security is paramount at Temple Mills Depot. Even the staff bus gets searched. For some reason the Border Agency are not keen on people entering the country by hiding in trains and escaping through the depot.

I believe an official party did once visit, but it was all arranged through the proper channels, asking someone to show you round is likely to get you both in trouble I'm afraid.

If you get the ( hourly? ) train from Tottenham Hale to Stratford it'll go fairly slowly right past the depot, certainly close enough and slow enough for a good look.

Don't be daft, I know plenty of perfectly competent cranks and number crunchers - my personal 'like' is signal boxes and signalling and I coped perfectly well as a guard and dispatcher.

Says me who loves it so much I drive trains for nowt on my rest days!

The serious point is you leave your interest at home when working, and I didn't feel it was professional to be publicly using a rail job to further a hobby.

You could contact the Branch Line Society - they often do shunter-hauled tours of depots and may be planning something or consider a request.

Thats where I got I wrong I applied to AGA for any job on the railway! after I was made redundant
I said I was a trainspotter and knew all about their trains , I thought it would help me

Did not even get a reply..still I guess having to be there every day is not as much fun as standing at the end of the platform for the odd hour here and there

Yes I can confirm I am real. I worked in the law for 40 odd years and was made redundant in my early 60s . I thought it would be useful for the company to have a member of staff who cared about the railway and would enjoy interacting with the public and other members of staff
I heard a chap going through his on the job training at Liverpool st. station. the trainer was asking questions about the O/h wires insulators and the TPWS equipment..I thought "I know all that " that is what made me think I could be of some use,,,,Their loss! got my pension early, hang around Colchester Station when it suits me ..The staff are very good they give me a visitors permit so as not to worry anyone who has been on the suicide course..Will be there to see the LNER steamer tommrow
