Visiting Leeds station with a platform ticket?

I am aware that there is a thread on platform tickets that already exists, but that seems outdated so I thought it would be a good idea to start a new thread considering that one has been ended. As somebody who is a fairly novice train spotter, I wanted to ask what a platform ticket is and is they still serve a purpose or even exist anymore: national rail loosely mentions them on one page, although it is breif. If so, what is the cost and how do I get one?

I believe the ticket office sell them for around 10 or 20p

I recently bought one at Haymarket from the ticket office for 20p. I wanted to visit to see if there were any traces left of the old station. As a child places such as Haymarket and seemed to me impossible far off locations that I could only dream of visiting.

The man at the counter was fairly dismissive and suspicious but he sold me one.

The chap at the barrier though, who had to let me through manually, was very pleasant, but he did insist on taking the ticket back off me as I departed.
