Hi,

Hoping a few people here have experience with the following:

Two things:

1) I've just got a STD PRIV ALR 7 DAY, valid from 29/6. On 4/7, I intend to buy Weekend First Upgrades in both directions, before boarding the trains. Does this permit me to use the First Class lounge at both Liverpool and Euston? (I think I'm pushing it a bit here, BUT, would an ALR count as an 'Anytime' journey and enable a free upgrade?)

4th July 2009 (Both Directions)
0738 Liverpool - Euston
1507 Euston - Liverpool

2) My mother is using two 1st Advance Singles for the above journey. If we missed the 1507, what fare can it be excessed up to? I am thinking it is only the Standard Open Single, but can anyone confirm whether you can excess a 1st Advance to a Standard Saver Single...

Thanks

If you excess it up to 1800 the day before it can be excessed to any other ticket, including an Off Peak! After that, I don't think it can be excessed at all and it counts for nothing. A new Anytime needs to be purchased.

Not sure if Weekend 1st is available to Std PRIV holders or not, but I thought you posted that your PRIV was First a while back? If it is a First priv but you chose a Std ALR then there will certainly be no problem.

If i'm understanding part of your query correctly, part of your answer is that you can't use FC lounges with a Virgin weekend first upgrade, std anytime ticket, or a std ALR ;)

Yeah, it's a TOCNE 1st Class Priv, but chose the Standard Class All-Line Rover.

I'm thinking they may offer me a free upgrade if it's a Liverpool crew... I know a lot of them do that for staff.

Thanks for the replies anyway chaps.

The rules for excessing on the train when there was no opportunity to buy before boarding is that you pay the differance between the cost of the cheapest ticket for immediate travel, which could be a saver single, and the cost of the advance, plus a £10 administation charge.
