Virgin Voyager at Deansgate

I was out on my bike earlier and by chance happened to see a Virgin Voyager (or Super Voyager?) heading east into Deansgate station. I think it was from the Trafford Park direction but it could have been from Salford Crescent. Why was it going this way - is it a diversionary route or a one-off?
