Virgin: Unreserved carriage on 9 Car Trains

Prior to the upgrade to 11 Car Pendolino's Coach E was always unreserved. We then had 3 carriages (EFU) available after the upgrade.

I joined a 9 Car today at the starting point of Glasgow (05:40) to Euston but there was no unreserved Coach.

Will this be the normal method from now on, Bit of a pain if you have not got a reserved seat

It may have been booked for an 11 Car but the 9 Car turned up instead, resulting in less space available.

Does that mean that coach E on a 9car set is no longer "unreserved", or indeed that the 11car sets now only have F & U unreserved?

Any VT Train Manager able to answer please?

From all the 11 car pendos I've been on all three coaches (E F and U) are unreserved.

Can you confirm there were reservations effective in Coach E? Or was it just a popular service and "E" was full of walk-up ticket-holders, or people who didn't fancy their reserved seat?

AlterEgo posted the following on the "Do I need to give up my seat?" thread.

On 11-cars only U and F are unreserved. E has reservations on 11-car sets.

That means, that if an 11-car diagram is being worked unexpectedly by a 9-car, there will be no unreserved coach in Standard.
