I just accidentally booked a train ticket for the wrong date. When I log in and try and change it online it says "this ticket is not yet ready to be Changed, please try again later"

Does it usually take a day? Or am I best to go to Euston and collect the ticket and then have it changed? It's a Virgin Trains advance.

I'd phone them ASAP.

You can wait a few days and collect it and change it at Euston but that would incur a £10 admin fee.

If you call them promptly and explain it was a mistake they might waive the admin fee.

A booking takes two hours to become fully confirmed - then, it can be changed.

Ring their Customer Relations team (I think they're open today) and explain ASAP, though.

calling them is a bit odd - the change/cancel option informs you that it must be done online but then connects you anyway!

No luck with waiving the admin fee - my fault though so can't complain.

Interesting that their procedure is to refund you the ticket minus the £10 and then book you another ticket. So if you haven't got the cash floating about to do than then the station is a better bet. Also NO amendments to e-tickets.

apart from being able to send the ticket to another passenger to use without the payment card I can't see why you'd choose the option, it's a page of your paper/ink and reduces your flexibility.

Isn't it great how electronic ticketing is bringing so much more flexibility than those fusty old paper tickets?

I sometimes find that there's a bit of a queue to use the printer at the station.

Most people don't want or need the sort of flexibility which costs £10 a time to exercise, anyway.

I'd like the flexibility of still holding a ticket when my phone battery is flat.
