Virgin Trains Selection Event - Train Manager

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and wanted to know if anyone has been through the Virgin Trains Selection Event - Preferably specifically for the Train Manager role.

I am an external applicant with no rail experience but have made it to through the online application, Assessment Day test and the email question.

I would be grateful if I could get any advice for the day and maybe some preparation advice.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to your response. This is literally my dream job for many reasons and I really want this!!!

The online form would not relate you (employer history etc.) If it is the same form I had to complete, it should take you at least 3 hours to complete.

Excellent advice, I'm no expert on getting into Virgin but that sounds about right.

The principle of the part you have bolded sounds about right for any job - why are you going to bite the hand that feeds you? Feel free to harbour your own personal thoughts, but speaking ill of superiors is asking for trouble.

As for being ignorant of all things railway, I don't agree. It's quite the contrary - if you demonstrate knowledge that will help the business, whether it is under the scope of your duties or not, it will be recognised.

I wonder if they have ever worked for Virgin? It's a decent company to work for - nobody bothers you if you keep your head down and there is always room for progression. Plus the pay is well over the "going rate" compared with other TOCs, in several grades. It's only ever people working for other TOCs I've heard slagging off Virgin so much!
