Drinks - at least two lagers, bitter, cider, soft drinks and all normal hot drinks.
I've seen some unusual microwavable things like cheesy mash before too!

They also have a few newspapers and magazines.

Cheesy Mash has now gone.... the faint whispering you may be hearing is the public outcry...

Better than last few journeys I made then a couple of years back where they had no microwaves for warming food, counter staff explained it was because they didnt have enough spare electrical power to run the microwaves.

(Kind of going off topic so I apologise in advance)...

BUT - on a certain memorable Caledonian Sleeper journey from Fort William, I was advised by the staff to buy a microwaveable meal from Morrisons (just across from the station) pre-departure - and they would gladly heat it up for me, they even put it on a plate! This was because they had got no food stock that evening - I've often wondered if other TOCs would have any objection to heating up an independently purchased microwaveable meal once their own stock had run out?

Yes cos that opens up the issue of you did it last time I travelled so do it now. Even though you have food left if you do it so that we become a reheating service then I dunno, just no its a bad idea trust me.

Travelled on VT today the offer is:

Meal Deal £3.95

Any cold sandwich or hot snack (Cheese burger, Panini, bacon muffin or Porridge) and a 500ml cold soft drink.

Add 50p extra and you can choose 1 of the following walkers crisps, doriotos, kit kat, mars, snickers, bounty or twix.

Good value really I had a cheese burger, crisps and coke.

Porridge isn't included.

At least VT still have the proper coffee machines. I see that EC have taken theirs out and replaced them with the traditional hot water tea urns... Reminds me of the old British Rail Maxpax coffees in the 70s and 80s that were always too hot to carry! (Anyone else remember those?)

Ha ha, yes i remember the dish water that was BR Maxpax. They then got them funny plastic cups with like a skirt at the top & if you had a couple gave you them dreadful long bendy white trays. Praise the Lord for the person who invented the buffet bag.

As for £4.45 or £5.50 for an on-board meal deal, i find that more than acceptable. If im on holiday & have bags or cases i have enough to carry & just want to make life easy & have a nice trip. Its the on board shop or buffet for me every time. If it's FGW & a travelling chef is with us then all the better still.
