Virgin Trains Livery Change

Hi all,

Just saw 390020 without any body side arrows like the newer Pendolinos and the extra two coach from the 11 coach formations. Are all the Pendolinos being treated?

A minor livery change. Any intel on this?

Can't answer your questions, but I've just seen 390 010 enter Manchester Piccadilly with no arrows and also repainted doors (solid grey - no stripes)

I saw that one the other day and wondered if it was awaiting transfers for the door stripes, as the base colour is grey with stick-on reflective stripes.

I agree. Now, what would we give to see them in Intercity, Intercity Swallow or HST Blue/Yellow!

Could be worse, at least this is still a red roof for the original livery. Rather unlike those delightful XC Voyagers where XC just hopes the red will be hidden by the dirt...

The very small chevrons under the windows. They look like grey blobs on the above. It appears they are missing from many or all of the new coaches/sets.

I think it's something to do with disability discrimination - if a door is covered in stripes, it'll be much more difficult to see than a solid block colour. That, and Mr. R Branson thought they were ugly

I expect that the Voyagers will also receive the changes. A shame, as I quite liked the stripes-they picked up the light very well! I wonder, on a slightly off-topic note, whether XC' Voyager fleet will have their roofs repainted-the vast majority still wear VTXC colours on the top!

Considering the franchise changed nearly 8 years ago, I'd be surprised if they suddenly had a change of heart now and got the rollers out!

Not the vast majority - they all do. It's just a case of whether you can see it under the dirt

It seems odd that the Virgin ICWC sets apparently do not get into such a state, and are maintained at the same place.

The XC sets are used far more intensively, and on longer services, so more diesel particulates stick to the roofs. That is at least what I assume happens.

I've said it before but I think the difference in cleanliness general upkeep between the VTWC and XC Voyagers is very noticeable.

Having said that, its about time all of the Voyagers were refurbished. I like them when they are not full to capacity (great big windows) but when they are rammed (as is often the case) they aren't very pleasant at all.

I would hazard a guess and place a couple of quid on the difference between the two fleets is that VT Voyagers visit the home depot of Central Rivers more, think VT stable Voyagers at Crewe, Holyhead and Central Rivers as opposed to XC which stable virtually everywhere. Potentially a Voyager could stable in Plymouth one night, then Eastleigh followed by Longsight then back to Central Rivers?

That and Virgin pay more for deep cleaning

Unable to find decent picture (people are more interested in the front than the side!) but you can just about make them out on this Its the: "<<>> <<>>" or whatever below the windows

These ones! The fact that they are on 010 suggests that either Alstom have got a very unorganised refurbishment scheme, or they are here to stay, with them simply not having been put on 020 when the OP saw it

I got rather confused because your post before in the thread mentioned that you'd seen 390010 in the new doors but lacking the arrows, then the next post showed the same unit with new doors AND arrows!

Oh yeah :? I'm sure the whole unit didn't have arrows as I already knew that F and U never have arrows
