Virgin trains job?

The reason I asked the question was because it appeared to me that you had already made the decision consciously or unconsciously to work for Virgin, and that they were the pinnacle of TOC

Having been through the entire process myself I consider myself extremely fortunate to have made it to the actual job itself and have become friends with people at various stages of the process and in particular one person who I thought with his professional background and the job he had been doing would be certain to get through, and he didn't make it

I hope you make it I really do, the trouble is what if you don't?

Would you be happy working for another TOC? Or would you once you'd eventually got into somewhere be thinking "right now I'm in, I have a bit more clout as it were so I'll apply to Virgin again"

as has been said, they currently run those routes, they might lose the franchise at some point and if they do, and you were working for them, you could then have the virgin part taken away from you

If your keen on getting a job within the rail industry then take a CSA role with anyone who's offering positions, then your not limiting your chances before you've even started

There are some fantastic people on these forums and with their help and advice I got to where I am, some people may sound like they are being harsh but they are trying to help you and anyone on here will tell you it's hard enough to get to the assessment stage let alone further

I had never been on a train in my life until July 2014 and ever since then I've done extensive research to the point where I'm annoying my partner talking about it that much, don't get me wrong I know no where near as much as some people but I do have a strong knowledge in the railway and trains in such a short time considering this time 7 months ago I had never been on a train and didn't have a clue how they worked I've come quite along way.

I can understand what you're saying but I didn't put that on my application form I kept that completley professional as it should be. But someone asked me why I want to work for Virgin above the other TOC's and I answered. I'm not drawn in by fast trains and celebrites I'm quite aware that there's a lot of other trains that travel at them sorts of speeds and I don't take notice in celebrity culture it doesn't interest me so I don't know what you mean by that.

I'm quite aware I don't word my replies well it's never been a strong point of mine I just have so much passion I can never quite make it come across over the Internet but if you know me in person you'd know that this isn't some little boy interest im very interested by the railway and trains and I have watched countless hours of fly on the wall documentires I completley understand how demanding railway jobs are and it's make or brake and many people have said that but everytime I see more and more into how it is working there it would put most people off but it makes me want it more.

I'm very mature for my age and I always have been.

listen mate your enthusiasm is commendable it really is and like i said earlier don't take my comments the wrong way!

the way you posted earlier on it did look and sound like you had been well and truly sucked in by the great virgin PR machine! and don't get me wrong that is easily done!

all people are saying is tone down on the ' things you now know' and just concentrate on what you can learn once you are in!....it is not always healthy to go in hell for leather with the knowledge card! sometimes it is better to know very little in terms of the industry show them how willing you are to learn and what you can bring to the job should you get it!

no one is saying this is some kind of 'little boy interest' mate as no one on here knows you well enough to make a bold statement like that! and once again your passion is commendable.....but sometimes passion can be as big a negative as a positive if it is put across in the wrong way!.....i'd say tone it down to an interest mate!

well if you do struggle putting things across in a way that is a bit more professional and attractive on the eye there are places that you can go to assist you in that mate!.......i know the jobcentre for example have departments that can assist when it comes to things like CV's and application forms!

don't take things so negatively mate!.....it may seem like people have gone off topic but there is a reason they have done that.......to help you! most of the people on here have been through the exact thought process and emotions that you are going through and have come out the other side smiling so listen to them!

one thing you will get on the railway is criticism......some constructive some not so constructive and you will get it from all angles so you really need to chillax a bit and look at the bigger picture
