I've often used a sneaky method of getting in the First Class Lounge at Doncaster when I've had a while to wait late at night. When I was on child tickets, and FC fares were 50% less than the adult fare, I always bought the mega-cheap Doncaster-Hull FDS, which was only about £1 more than the SDS! As this is officially a walk on ticket on the GNER route they couldn't refuse me access to the First Class Lounge, despite the fact that I was on an £8.50 ticket

I didn't actually think there was any YP discount on first fares! Thanks for setting the record straight there on the Virgin Advances, I'll remember that! :)

I didn't need a passport when I bought my YP Railcard, just a passport photo and something with proof of address (bank statement etc.). You could use your passport as your ID though if you wanted.

1) Virgin definately accept VT First in lounges, as they're my favourite TOC's lounge which i've used- I love changing at Birmingham N St, and popping into the small, but very comfortable lounge, whilst there's a big crowd of people on the concourse.. Euston's lounge even has showers, and a bar, but i've not used them yet.

2) I've been very surprised before, that Crewe doesn't have a FC lounge, yet Stoke-On-Trent does?

Euston now also has a First Class Coffee Lounge situated within the ticket hall at the rear open to holders of all 1st class tickets, the lounge is self service and has tea/coffee/orange/water etc and biscuits also leather seats and sofas.

Crewe may be getting a first class lounge if a refurbishment takes place but Cheshire council (i think thats the council?). Runcorn and Liverpool Lime Street will also get lounges in time for the VHF timetable.
