What stock will be used for these, are there enough pendos or will double (or single) voyagers be used?

It also seems there will be a loss of virgin trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham but not Birmingham to Wolverhampton (not the end of the world but still worth mentioning). The joined northbound services replace a Euston-Birmingham but the joined southbound services replace a Wolverhampton Euston.

And finally out of curiosity, will these trains be advertised to their final destination at their orogin? (e.g. will a train display Glasgow when it is in Euston or not so to keep Glasgow passengers on the current London-Glasgow)

Is this to strengthen services for the Edinburgh Festival?

If so, great! The services are usually absolutely mobbed around festival time. I'm looking forward to changing at Coventry or Birmingham International onto a Pendolino or even the Pretendalino (but doubt that'll manage the 4h timing between Birmingham and Edinburgh)

Unless i'm mistaken (i wouldn't be surprised) the northbound services are a connection of a Euston-Birmingham and a Birmingham-Scotland, so we effectively have what we have now between Birmingam and Wolverhampton with a Birmingham-Scotland and a Euston-Wolverhampton so there are still the two services per hour we have currently.

The point i'm trying to make is on the Southbound services the Scotland-Birmingham joins to a Wolverhampton-Euston so that makes one service between Wolverhampton and Birmingham in that hour instead of a seperate Scotland-Birmingham and Wolverhampton-Euston.

I appreciate my wording may not be too clear, but unless i've got it wrong (as I've said before thats a possibility) that seems to be the case.

I would suspect that they are either Extra services for the Edingburgh Festival or they are extra services that Virgin are putting because of the Ash Cloud problems that have been going on/off for the last few weeks that have prevented planes flying.

Yes that's right Dave R. This will result though in Voyagers covering extra EBW diagrams, and with one out of action for the foreseeable future, things could get cosy!

Aren't the Wolverhampton departures from Euston at XX:23 not XX:43?

The XX:43 terminates at New Street anyway.

EDIT: Sorry, you are talking about southbound departures.

Virgin West Coast where doing very well during the recession. The Ash cloud has simply accelerated that growth even further. Those extra Pendo's are desperatley needed for what has to be the UKs most succsesful railway story since the IC125.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'm trying to get a firm answer on this. The new 8:43 London Euston to Edinburgh service, will it be using Electric or DEMU rolling stock?

The Virgin Trains website only shows the old routes (i.e. London-Birmingham and Birmingham-Edinburgh). According to that website, the first part is Pendolino while the second part is Super Voyager. www.virgintrains.co.uk/routes-stations/

I'm specifically interested in the direct London Euston to Edinburgh 8:43am Saturday train. Any idea what rolling stock is used on this one?

It makes more sense for a 390 to be use as it's all under the wires and it would be good for me to do Euston to Edinburgh with Virgin :)

Not disputing what rail-britain said and if there is a source it would be a welcome link to view, but VT in their infinite wisdom could use a 221 (or two in multiple) on this service if a 390 could not be freed up.

The 08:43 Euston to Edinburgh via Birmingham should definately be a Pendolino, it certainly was last summer as I had a nice ride on it all the way.

Just a warning though- whilst almost all services mentioned will be Pendolinos, 13:43 Euston to Glasgow Central via Birmingham will probably be a Super Voyager- therefore likely to be extremely busy at best.
