Virgin Pendolino's - WCML - Doors

Hi All,

My first post on this forum so hello to all! Sorry if this isn't quite in the correct place - please feel free to move it if so.

I've got a question with regards to the door opening systems on the Pendolino and wondered if anyone on here knew how they worked. Specifically I wanted to know if there was software the controlled the doors all opening at once?

First of all, welcome to the forums.

Not a huge expert on this but I have worked out a little bit of the way they work from observing (though some of this may seem obvious)

When the doors are opened, there is a step which drops down first before the doors open (I think as a result of the increased floor height because of the tilting mechanism)...this always seems to confuse people as they constantly jab the door open button not realising that it takes a few seconds to open.

Likewise, on closing, the (ultra annoying!) hustle alarm keeps going until the doors are closed and the steps have returned to their travel position.

Driver releases doors from cab, allowing pax to open doors individually. When open button is pressed, locks released and the door can be opened, once the step has lowered fully triggering the door motor.

TM closes doors other than local door, door has 2 sec hustle before moving, hustle continues while door motors shut, step retracts and the locking mechanism replaced. Then hustle goes off and door is 'locked'. TM closes local door before ding ding and away.

I am unsure whether there is a block release on the doors, a few drivers on here may know.

The only way all the doors can be literally opened and closed at the same time is from within maintenance mode on TMS.

What is TMS?

So the doors could all be opened but only in maintenance mode and i am guessing this would open doors on both sides not just the platform side?

What is TMS?

As far as I'm aware it's the Train Managment System, which is the computer system on-board the 390s.
