Virgin m-ticket on other TOC service

Same as Metro in West Yorkshire. Same as Oyster in London when it first came out.

Travelled on a Metro (Northern) service from Leeds to Doncaster on Saturday with a Virgin m-ticket. Conductor/Guard was perfectly happy with it. He didn't check the bar code - not sure if he didn't have the equipment - or chose not too - I don't think he had one of those bar code readers Virgin EC Guards have

If you mean the fact Merseyrail is a concession, then that difference doesn't really matter; it's the same principle.

Plenty of Open Access Operators, but that have a franchise? I can't think of any.

I think there has been some confusion caused by an earlier post. Several of us know where 185 works but no way should any forum member post publicly who they work for. It's not a Train Operating Company (TOC), but none of this changes the principle of what 185 says, which is quite correct.

My point was that you said Merseyrail was in breach of a franchise, but Merseyrail isn't a franchise. I would not presume to ask people for their employer's name.

Think Yorkie was referring to the other chap. Whilst Merseytravel may have awarded this franchise as a locally-let concession it is still, by definition, a tendered contract - no real difference apart from the DfT didn't directly make the decision.

Back to the whole point of the thread, the franchise/contract/concession/potato holder Merseyrail agreed to accept ordinary ATOC ticketing and it is my belief they would be in breach of said err.. potato should they refuse to recognise all-operator tickets other ATOC members have issued.

I never said you did. I just explained that there was some confusion!

The confusion was unfortunate, but none of this changes the fact that 185 made an excellent point that Merseyrail are obliged to accept such tickets.
