Slightly OT: Anyone else notice how Preston marks the end for everything? When the mk3 stock finished active service the last one terminated at Preston, and I'm sure there's other examples.
I sniggered at that too.
Come December, I doubt Virgin will have quite the same support once the public realise they'll still have the same trains and even the same staff working the day after.
At the moment it seems hard to convince them that the trains aren't being replaced by Pacers and all the staff will be gone.

I would imagine that the fleet will start to get de-branded from November. Maybe a Voyager &/or but probably a Pendo will get held to allow a new livery to be applied for the initial service & the usual pomp on day one.
Isn't this the one that used to (still does?) have the escorts on-board?

So much for privatisation. Even under British Rail the government didn't choose what colour the trains were painted. It seems that far from allowing the TOCs to make this (fairly unimportant) decision, it's up to Theresa Villiers to decide if they're allowed to rebrand or not. Don't the actual owners of the trains, the ROSCOs, have any say in the matter?
I doubt they're worried as long as the painting is done to a suitable standard to protect the bodywork (and any vinyls applied on top) and that they're restored to a suitable standard at the end of the franchise.
I do agree that a uniform colour scheme for all trains (different colours perhaps for Intercity and local metro stock) would be favourable but only by changing the whole franchise system. For one, if all trains looked the same then it would be hard to have multiple operators with different tickets. You'd simply have one ticket for all (IC excepted) irrespective of the operator. But we don't run the railways like TfL manages London buses.

He could only do that with a qualified driver in the cab.
The way things are going I'm almost convinced that he'll be getting training as we speak as one last PR stunt.

Can't imagine there being a big party for the final Virgin service seeing how annoyed they were, but expect the usual pomp and golore for the first 'First' services.
As already mentioned the trains and staff will stay the same and once people realise this the trough will subside.

I notice the cheapest advance on the first train to WVH on 9/12/2012 is not available. Is this because thy've all already been snapped up or did Virgin not put any on sale?

I seem to remember bashing the last Class 304 to Preston!
