On the first day expect new Uniforms and publicity, that's all. A Pendolino may be vinyled into what ever scheme is chosen (I believe DfT policy is for Generic schemes now) but that is all.

Virgin will have to de-brand their fleet before the handover date. Expect West Coast (again I believe Generic names must be used with new Franchises) stickers to be applied in the first few days. Repaints will be done by the normal schedule (which won't be for a while as I believe the Pendolinos may have had a repaint during their recent overhauls (and adding the extra coaches))

Fairly sure that TOCs are still free to brand as they see fit, was Villiers' response when asked on Wednesday. Pendos haven't been repainted during their H3 overhauls. Normally a train will be vinyled ready for the franchise being officially launched on the Monday.

Will the final service operated by Virgin Trains be celebrated in any way or will Sir Richard Branson just want it to pass by without any mention?

I suspect there will be one last opportunity to make a point.

Can't see RB coming in from Necker Island to flag away the final train away on a cold Saturday night in December.

What is likely to be more special - last EUS-WVH or last WVH-EUS?

Not sure.

Is it more important to mark the occasion with the last service to depart from Euston or the last one to arrive?

I would imagine Euston will be more likely to have an "event" so-to-speak. But obviously the last wheel turning will be at Wolves.

Both, for different reasons. However, being at Euston would seem the best place to be for any events (then perhaps staying in the nearby Premier Inn to see the first re-liveried service in the morning).

tickets arent avaliable yet. any chance of any advanced fares? lol

Likely, since VT get all of the revenue. Big chance of cheapo Advances for the first 10 weeks of the FWC franchise too! ;)

Agreed.
If you fancy - head over to the forum meets section as this is part of the plan.

Don't think there has ever been anything special on a final service, a couple of bashers, snappers and a sign in the window is normally about it before the train disappears into the night. Although WSMR was slightly different, but then that did involve job losses and all came about in a couple of days. I think the 2143 to Wolveswill be the farewell train as it is both the last departure and arrival (2350). Who know maybe the Pretendolino will be specially rostered?

I doubt it, I expect Branson will want to bow out with the symbol of Virgin's tenure, the Class 390 Pendolino, not stand next to the stock on which billions was spent replacing ;)

Is there any likelihood of a headboard on the last service?

Perhaps (though I think it's unlikely and do 390s even have anywhere to fit a headboard?) but more to the point how is anyone supposed to know seeing as I very much doubt that anyone at Virgin has even given any thought to their last service yet.

They have! I was discussing it with a lovely young lady in the booking office at MAN tonight. She was distraught!

I stand corrected, and indeed hoisted by my own petard by generalising about the entire company!
