Hi,

I’ve searched before posting this...

I have 3 Advance Single tickets with VTEC, bought with the Small Group discount on their website.

If there’s no penalty then one of us will be getting another ticket for a diffferent train, thus leaving just the two of us with the original tickets.

The restriction code is GC, the tickets are simple Advance Single ones - there is no other restriction on the ticket, so I take it from this we would be ok to travel as a pair only, because it’s the same as us having undiscounted tickets ?

Thoughts ?

Thanks,

Nick.

The terms and conditions on the VTEC website say:

  • Small Group Discount applies to Advance tickets booked online, and usual Advance terms and conditions apply, plus the following ones:
  • Passengers must travel together throughout.
  • Any changes to your tickets will need to be made to all the tickets in the group booking.

Previous threads on this topic have suggested that if the two remaining group members travel with all three tickets in their possession, discretion may be shown on the day: after all, three small-group tickets cost the same as 2.25 undiscounted tickets. But the strict condition is that all passengers on the booking must travel together throughout. NB the position gets bit murkier with larger groups: five small-group tickets only cost the same as 3.75 adult tickets, so with one no-show the remaining four passengers are travelling for less than four undiscounted adult tickets, except that they could have got 4 discounted tickets for the price of 3 undiscounted ones if they'd known they would only be a group of 4 on the day.

Ok, and where on the actual ticket does it tell the conductor that they are part of Small Group ?
