Virgin East Coast m-Ticket

Hi,

I wonder if someone could answer a query I have. I've been looking at buying a ticket from London Kings Cross to Keighley, and I was given the delivery option of 'Send my m-Ticket to my Mobile Device'. However, I wasn't sure if this would be valid for my entire journey, as I'll be travelling with Northern Rail for the Leeds to Keighley leg. I know before Virgin took over, East Coast used to offer an e-ticket option, but you only got that option if the entire journey was with East Coast.

Can anybody clarify if these m-Tickets are valid on Northern Rail as I couldn't find anything on the Virgin East Coast website.

Yes, they would not offer them if they were not valid (I hope!)

There is more info on http://www.northernrail.org/travel/mobile-app (if you book from the VTEC site, it's the same sort of thing).

However be warned that mobile tickets are less flexible, especially if you think your plans might change, or the possibility your phone might break or run out of battery, so I might still choose a good old fashioned paper one!

Also watch for technical issues with VTEC's mobile site, if that's how you're going to book. A month or so ago I got an error towards the end of the transaction and started again, only to find that when I went to my email later I found that I'd booked a £100 ticket twice! They refunded me straight away and admitted a bug. This was Firefox on Android if it helps, but I'm not sure that the specific browser and OS was the issue.

This is Northern remember, according to that webpage m-tickets aren't available to Keighley - or indeed hardly anywhere in West Yorkshire. I was bombarded with emails from Northern to download their app, but having done so haven't been able to buy any m-tickets with it.
