Had a weird one on the Victoria line this afternoon. Walked onto the Oxford Circus Victoria line platform to a train there with the rear doors off the platform. It had arrived seconds before, and it looked like the train had automatically stopped in the wrong place- is this likely to be an ATO issue?

After a short time the train inched forward to the correct stopping point, and after a few minutes the train continued. However it really felt like the train was being driven manually- it felt like full speed in between stops but approaching each station it was much more cautious and the train went very slowly coming to a stop, very unlike the normal ATO driving. Is this likely something that was happening? Are the trains driven manually like normal when there is an ATO issue like this?

Obviously being manually driven the journey took longer than usual and there was a long queue of trains behind! The destination of our train also changed to Seven Sisters, presumably going to the depot (or just terminating short)

Can anyone shed any light into some of these questions? Thanks in advance!! :D

The train lost it's ATO capability at Oxford Circus. It usually returns pretty quickly, but this was a rare instance where it didn't, hence why it changed it's destination to Seven Sisters and went to the depot for fleet investigation.

As for the driving slowly, it was being driven manually (protected manual) and understandably, the train operator was perhaps more cautious approaching the stopping marks in the platform compared to ATO mode.

Yes of course that's understandable and to be fair it wasn't especially noticeable and the average passenger wouldn't have noticed a difference!

Thanks so much for the info, that's really interesting!
